NEXT District 6 Math Description
Students will gain competency and essential mathematical reasoning skills through the study of quantitative and algebraic problem solving. Content in this course focuses primarily on the mastery of the core fundamentals of mathematics. Students will show proficiency in modeling, constructive reasoning and mathematical procedures. Specifically, students will display expertise in problem solving and procedural skills, data interpretation, and statistics that pertain to both academic and workforce environments. Combined, this course will provide students with the understanding and ability to apply their fundamental problem solving and reasoning skills in everyday life situations.
Grading is Pass/Fail and successful completion of the semester will result in .5 elective credit being awarded on the students transcripts.
NEXT District 6 Science Description
Students will gain competency and essential reasoning skills through the study of Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space Science. Content in this course focuses primarily on two essential themes; Human Health and Living systems as well as Energy and Related Systems. While exploring Human Health and Living Systems, students will study material that is essential for maintaining the health and safety of humans, plants and animals. Specifically, students will analyze the characteristics of the physical bodies of humans and how the body works on the chemical and physical levels. Life systems of organisms including diseases, heredity and evolution will also be covered. Students will focus on how the environment impacts society and living things as well as how humans and other organisms can impact the environment. The second theme focuses entirely on energy. Specifically, how energy transforms, where energy comes from and how it is used. Students will explore how energy moves through living things and environments. Combined, this course will provide students with the understanding and ability to apply their fundamental science reasoning skills to everyday life situations.
Grading is Pass/Fail and successful completion of the semester will result in .5 elective credit being awarded on the student's transcripts.
NEXT District 6 Social Studies Description
Students will gain competency and essential reasoning skills through the study of Civics, Government, United States History, Economics and Geography. Content in this course focuses primarily on United States Civics and Government by integrating two essential themes; Development of Modern Liberties and Democracy as well as Dynamic Responses in Social Systems. While exploring Development of Modern Liberties and Democracy, students will analyze time periods beginning with ancient civilizations and ending with present day. Students will understand how each reviewed era has contributed to our current ideas about democracy and human and civil rights. Specifically, students will study policies, government structures, major events, and historical figures to get a better understanding of how they worked together to shape the United States Government and American Philosophies of Democracy. The second covered theme investigates how human created policies, beliefs, and social structures respond to each other, geographic location, and naturally occurring events. Combined, this course will provide students with the understanding and ability to apply their fundamental social reasoning skills to everyday life situations.

NEXT District 6 English Description
Students will gain competency and essential reasoning skills through the study of reading, writing and the English language. Content in this course focuses primarily on three concepts; the ability to read and grasp texts, written analysis of texts, and the capability to edit and understand English. While studying reading comprehension, students will gain the ability to determine textual details, make reasonable conclusions and accurately respond to questions. Specifically, students will be able to determine important textual elements such as main idea, point of view and definitions. While studying writing, students will gain the ability to conclude relevant and adequate evidence from scholarly or informational articles to demonstrate their abilities through analytical writing. Students will also display proficiency in the use of technology and keyboard skills to transcribe texts. The third covered theme will ensure that students can represent a mastery of Standard English, specifically; grammar, proper word usage, capitalization and punctuation. Combined, this course will provide students with the understanding and ability to apply their fundamental language arts reasoning skills to everyday life situations.
