D6 Athlete of the Week: Bo Tellez, Northridge High School

D6 Athlete of the Week: Bo Tellez, Northridge High School

"For the last four years, Bo has been a true leader on this team - not just by what she says, but by how she shows up every day. She is gritty, tough, and never afraid of a challenge. She leads by example and pushes everyone around her to work harder and compete harder. Her determination and relentless mindset have made her someone her teammates can count on. Her impact on this team goes far beyond the game, and her leadership will be remembered long after these four years are over."

"I am most proud of being 3x All-State Honorable Mention and 3x All-Conference."

What's one goal you're currently working towards in your sport?

"I am working towards getting All-State and All-Conference."

Describe your worst sports performance. What did you learn from this experience?

"My worst sports performance was this past year during club softball. I went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts. At that game, there were people that have said a lot of negative things about my athletic abilities, and I wanted to prove to them that I was nothing like what they have said. I felt like there was a lot of pressure on me at that moment, but now I realize that there was absolutely none and I was the only one putting pressure on myself. I have learned that softball is second nature to me and playing carefree is how I have come as far as I have."

Who are your role models in your sport or life, and how have they influenced you?

"My biggest role model in this sport is my sister. She always pushes me to be better than she ever was, and it takes a very humble person to want that for your sibling. I also really appreciate my parents for sacrificing so much money and time for me to play the sport I love. My mom has always been my biggest fan, and she never lets me get in my head about things. My dad has taught me everything I know about softball. He helps me stay humble and is always teaching me how I can grow as a player."

How do you balance sports with other responsibilities like school or work?

"I balance sports with other responsibilities by prioritizing them. At the end of the day, softball is just a game, but an education is something you will really need in the long run."

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"I plan to go to college to play softball and study business."

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"I would tell them to do it! Softball is a great way to meet your best friends and stay in shape. Trying something new can be scary, but at least you can say you tried!"

Do you have any funny pre-game rituals or superstitions that you stick to?

"I have to put my right cleat on before my left, but I have to tie my left cleat before my right."

If you were to participate in a talent show unrelated to your sport, what would your act be?

"If I were participating in a talent show I would be doing Waka Waka by Shakira on Just Dance as my act."
