D6 Athlete of the Week: Coehn Nitzel, University High School

D6 Athlete of the Week: Coehn Nitzel, University High School

"I am proud of Coehn. He had a great basketball career at University. He is as hard of a worker as I have ever coached. Coehn did everything and more in helping our team reach the State Championship game this season. Not only was he a huge part of what we did on the floor, he was an incredible leader."

Coehn did everything and more in helping our team reach the State Championship game this season. Not only was he a huge part of what we did on the floor, he was an incredible leader. All Coehn cared about was team success. I wish Coehn nothing but the best moving forward into his college career. I know he will be successful in anything he decides to do in life!" - Bobby Ervin, Basketball Coach

"I'm most proud of making it to the State Championship this year."

What's one goal you're currently working towards in your sport?

"Working on getting a better 3-point shot."

Describe your worst sports performance. What did you learn from this experience?

"My worst sports performance was this year against Liberty Common. I learned that I need to be confident in tight, late game situations and be a leader. My team feeds off of my energy, so when I have poor body language, it affects my team a lot. During this game, I missed a lot of clutch free throws down the stretch and turned it over because I was in my head and lacking confidence. After this game, I learned to hold my head high and play with confidence, even when I'm having an off day."

Who are your role models in your sport or life, and how have they influenced you?

"My role model in my life is my dad. He influences me in ways outside of my sport. The way he handles his work in such a stressful environment by being so kind and treating everyone with tons of respect goes a long way. It pays off for him, and it's awesome to see."

How do you balance sports with other responsibilities like school or work?

"I balance sports and school by dedicating time to each activity throughout my day and staying true to it."

What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?

"After high school, I plan to play college basketball. I am still undecided on where I am going to go."

What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?

"Have fun and dedicate time outside of organized practices and games to basketball."

Do you have any funny pre-game rituals or superstitions that you stick to?

"Not any."

If you were to participate in a talent show unrelated to your sport, what would your act be?

"Singing a Morgan Wallen song."
