D6 Athlete of the Week: Rory Weizenegger, Greeley Central High School
"Rory is one of our Senior leaders, and I have had the honor of coaching her in two high school sports now. She has always had this 'Will-Do' attitude, and it shows in both the classroom and in her leadership on the field. She is always ready to accept a challenge and quick to give her teammates the support they need to level up their growth. Rory, I am so proud of everything you have accomplished for yourself..."

You are coachable, open-minded, empathetic, and accountable...everything we need in leadership these days. Not many Seniors are able to tolerate being on a very young team, but you have stepped into it with ease. Thank you for demonstrating what dedication and hard work looks like. Lastly, I am excited for the college that you will choose to go play for as they will be gaining a very valuable athlete!" - Coach Elisa Davis

"Junior year, I got nominated as the outstanding female athlete of Greeley Central High School. I'm proud of this because it shows I can be an athlete and a student and accomplish my goals."
What are your goals for this season?
"My goal is to get recruited for college softball to play at the next level."
Who are your role models in your sport or life, and how have they influenced you?
"My role models are my teammates Jennifer and Alyea and our manager Hunter. They have always pushed me to be my best even when times get hard."
How do you manage the balance between academics and athletics? What strategies have been most effective for you?
"I always put my academics first. I have always been told that I am a student-athlete. But, when it comes to the sport, I just forget what happened at school that day and focus on my team and my performance. But, I never let my grades fall below a 'B'. Some strategies I use when it comes to being a student athlete is to use my time to my advantage. I have two off blocks, and I do schoolwork for classes I'm going to miss during that time."
How do you handle pressure and maintain mental resilience during high-stakes competition?
"I always know I have my teammates backing me up, keeping my head up after a mistake. In pressure situations, I always think of the next play, knowing where to go if anything is hit so I won't panic."
What are your career or college plans after you graduate high school?
"I plan to go to college and get my criminal justice degree so I can become a parole officer."
What advice do you have for younger athletes who want to join your sport?
"Don't be scared! I know it is intimidating at first, but you will find your second family. And sometimes, you might want to do it in your future."
Do you have any funny pre-game rituals or superstitions that you stick to?
"Don't step in the chalk line. If you do, you have to kiss it."
If you were to participate in a talent show unrelated to your sport, what would your act be?
"I would probably do something related to singing."
